Our Core Values and Beliefs
At Artificiality, we hold a set of core beliefs that guide our values, shape our practice, and anchor our vision.
At Artificiality, we hold a set of core beliefs that guide our values, shape our practice, and anchor our vision.
Meaning over efficiency
We believe progress should expand our ability to shape our paths, contribute with purpose, and imagine better futures—not just optimize productivity. As we develop synthetic intelligence, we must pursue deep awareness of what these systems truly provide us and how they function. Even if complete understanding remains elusive, we commit to continuous inquiry and rigorous assessment of our creations. This vigilance is essential as we navigate the ethical complexities of our relationship with synthetic minds.
Symbiosis in diversity
We are pro-human and believe the human project is unfinished. Our evolution alongside synthetic intelligences is about participating in its ongoing redefinition through new values and new meanings, not about transcending our humanity. This is a future shaped by co-evolution and mutual adaptation with diverse intelligences—biological, synthetic, and cultural—working in creative symbiosis. And we believe the rewards of coexisting with new intelligences will, in the end, outweigh the costs of getting there.
Imagination shapes possibility
We believe imagination is the bridge between curiosity and creation. It fuels our ability to envision better futures and shapes how we bring them into reality. We embrace imagination as both a sense of wonder that explores the unknown and a design force that builds the tangible. Through imagination, we protect what makes us uniquely human while crafting tools and systems that expand our collective potential.
Hope fuels action
We do not believe in naïve optimism. We believe in hope as practice—rooted in critical thinking, principled action, and the conviction that transformation is possible, even when it's hard. Hope is commitment: it is active and it resists the status quo. It means asking better questions, designing better systems, and building momentum through community and connection. For us, hope is not just belief—it's how we begin.
Stories are collective practice
We believe in the stories of us. Stories don't just reflect reality—they shape it. They are both the currents that move us and the infrastructure that holds us together, living entities that evolve as we do. Stories about AI—who it's for, what it does, what it could become—generate meaning, emotion, and momentum. We treat storytelling as a collective practice of meaning-making—grounded in inquiry, carried forward by connection.
Technology is never neutral
We believe the future should be more participatory, pluralistic, and just—but that won't happen by accident. It takes imagination, resistance, and the will to build alternatives. Left unchallenged, technology concentrates power, extracts from the commons, and advances the illusion that progress is something to submit to—not shape. We reject that narrative. We work to reframe power.
Progress and promise
We recognize that technological advancement has dramatically improved human lives—reducing child mortality, extending lifespans, and alleviating suffering. Technology is central to what makes humans special. We believe in the continued potential of progress to create better lives while acknowledging that benefits must be more equitably distributed and environmental impacts carefully considered. The goal isn't to reject technological advancement but to shape it toward human flourishing and planetary health.
